Erik ten Hag has given his verdict of Donny van de Beek’s situation at Ajax amid continuous speculations linking the Dutch midfielder with a move to Manchester United.

Van de Beek has emerged as one of Manchester United’s top targets for the summer transfer window after the 23-year-old Dutchman impressed for Ajax over the past couple of seasons.

After playing a starring role in Ajax’s outstanding Champions League run in 2018/19, the highly-rated midfielder carried his predatory form to 2019/20, registering ten goals and 11 assists in all competitions before the coronavirus pandemic halted proceedings in the Netherlands.

Real Madrid have also been on Van de Beek’s trail for quite a while, but Manchester United seem to be leading the race at the moment.

Indeed, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sees the combative box-to-box midfielder as a missing piece of his midfield jigsaw and is willing to make utmost efforts to get the deal over the line in the coming months.

United’s pursuit of Van de Beek has now received a massive boost, as Ajax boss Erik ten Hag confirms the Eredivisie giants are unlikely to keep hold of several of their first-team stars.

In addition to Donny, Andre Onana and Nicolas Tagliafico are also on their way of leaving Ajax this summer, with a number of the Premier League sides interested in securing their signatures.

Tagliafico, linked with both Chelsea and Arsenal, is the most likely to leave according to ten Hag, with van de Beek and Onana also pushing for moves abroad.

The transfer market will start in August – the top leagues are now being played out, so the money flows are maintained, Ten Hag said.

The market value of players will be slightly depressed, but not much. Based on their performance and ambition, a number of our players also want to make a move abroad.

Agreements have been made with Andre Onana, Donny van de Beek and Nicolas Tagliafico, but it remains to be seen whether the market is indeed breaking loose.

For Onana and Van de Beek, another year of Ajax could certainly be an option. For Tagliafico, it is slightly different because of his age.
