Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has joined French Ligue 1 outfit Nice for an undisclosed fee.

The France international joined the Toffees in January 2017 after a frustrating career at Manchester United which led to his departure.

Since arriving at Goodison Park, the 30-year-old has made 88 appearances for the Merseyside club across all competitions, while scoring just a goal.

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti was critical of his words on the player as he only limited himself with the spell the player enjoyed under his management.

“I can talk about the period he spent with me and I think it was a good period,” Everton manager Ancelotti said.

“He had injuries but in the time he played, he played well. Everyone in the club is happy for what he did as a professional here and everyone wants to wish him the best.

“He had the desire to go back to France and we let him, he had the possibility to go there, so we wish him all the best for the future.”

Schneiderlin underwent a knee surgery in February, but prior to that the midfielder had started only 12 Premier League games in the 2019/20 campaign.

His time at Everton has mostly been hampered by persistent injuries which did not allow his enough time to make the needed impact at the club.

He joins Nice who are managed by former Arsenal skipper Patrick Viera. They finished fifth in the French domestic league this season and could have even done better if not the premature end to the season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
