A Nigerian parent can be very loving and caring, they would provide whatever you need and take good care of you through your education an beyond, but could also be very strict and could beat the hell out of you for a little and common mistake. You would think that its nothing really serious but to them, it is tantamount and you might be seriously dealt with.

Some of you remember being actually beaten for standing up while eating or even talking while eating which is not good though. You may have been beating for not sitting properly while eating.

Let's go back to old memories of the very funny way Nigerian parents could beat their kids for.

1. Wasting Food

Even before this era of Coronavirus, it is a cardinal offense in a Nigerian home to waste food. It is a must to finish your food and it is even worst when you insisted the one you were given wouldn’t be enough for you, so your mom had to add some more and after all that drama, you are unable to finish the food. Get ready to receive the beaten of your life if you dare do that in this difficult period.

2. Sucking Thumb

Some kids enjoy doing this and it sometimes become a habit for a child, but they better know the exact time to have the thumb in their mouth. The last thing you would wish for is for a Nigerian parent especially moms to catch you thumb sucking, they actually have the tendency to beat you into the next year or year after until you stop it completely.

3. Careless

For instance, your parent send you to buy something from a shop nearby, then the you forgets to take your change, or loses the money or buys something else or doesn’t even remember what you were sent to buy. I am very sure, you know exactly what would come after that right? Frog jump may be added to your punishment after beaten.

4. Bed Wetting

A Nigerian parent could totally beat and humiliate a child before anyone for bed wetting. They even have songs that are chanted to shame a bed-wetting child. Sometimes they will tell your school teacher about it so that your classmates will make mockery of you, that time nobody will tell you to stop bed-wetting

5. Stealing From School

It doesn't matter where you stole it from, is called stealing as long as your parents didn’t put them in your bag when you were going to school in the morning. So, when they see other people’s items in your bag, they could beat you until you remember the date you were born.

This forever ranks highest when it comes to punishment. Eating in your neighbour’s food whether your parents were present or not is an offense. Our parents wants to raise us in a respectful manner and you would be totally contradicting their dreams of making that happen when you turn out to be a child that sees an elder and doesn’t greet. This is common among Yoruba people that always kneeling down while greeting an elder, When your mom reminds you before you have to greet an elderly person, then you know you are surely going to get whooped when you get inside, that is if you don’t get it immediately in front of the person.

All this can be funny now that most of us has passed that stage but going back to old memories, you do never want that moment to occur again.
