Real Madrid returned to the top of the La liga table after beating relegation threatened Mallorca on Tuesday night.

The Los Blancos won 2-0 at their makeshift home, the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano stadium, which also serves as their training ground. They are ahead of Barcelona thanks to their superior head to head record. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

Real Madrid defender and captain, Sergio Ramos scored an exquisite free kick goal. He is the top scoring defender in La Liga history, and also Madrid's second highest goal scorer this season with 10 goals. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

Vinicius Junior had opened the scoring early in the first half as the Los Blancos wasted no time in getting into grove. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

The win takes Real Madrid to 68 points, same as Barcelona in second. There are just seven rounds of La liga fixtures still to be played, and with the top two sitting toe to toe, it looks like the title is going to go down to the wire.

If they both end with the same number of points, Real Madrid would be crowned champions based on their superior head to head record over Barcelona.
