The much disputed National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling party, the APC has come to an end at the State House, Abuja.

The meeting was convened by the Victor Giadam, the Acting National Chairman of APC which was condemned as illegal and unconstitutional by Pro-Oshiomhole led faction headed by Prince Hilliard Eta, who is deputizing for the sick senator Abiola Ajimobi.

The APC National Executive Committee meeting had in attendance, President Buhari, Vice President Osinbajo, Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Victor Giadom, National Deputy Chairman, Lawal Shaibu, Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris Wase, the House majority leader, Hassan Dogowa and the Deputy Chief Whip, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Nnenna Ukeje.

Also in attendance are Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and the Deputy Majority Leader of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Peterson Akpatason.

The meeting presided by Buhari was convened to address the lingering crisis which has imploded the party and threatening their chances in 2020 Edo and Ondo gubernatorial elections.

The key bone of contest is the legal position of the National Chairman of the party which Victor Giadom has claimed owing to a court order from the High Court in Port Harcourt.

President Buhari in his address to the party members highlighted the need for aggrieved parties to sheath their swords, withdraw all court litigation against each others and eschew internal conciliation. If not, the party might be headed to self destruct.

Based on the need for internal conciliation, President Buhari recommended the dissolving of the party's National Working Committee and forming a caretaker committee to tend to the affairs of the party.

The emergency NEC meeting adopted all the recommendations by President Buhari, and appointed the Governor of Yobe State, Mallam Mai Buni, as Caretaker National Chairman, while Senator John Akpanudoede was designated Caretaker National Secretary.

Further, President ratified the Edo state APC primary election which emerged Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the party's candidate.

Major decisions taken during the meeting are summarized below;

1. Victor Giadom led APC NWC no longer recognized after it was dissolved

2: Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu remains Edo Legitimate APC flag bearer

3: Every party member with pending court litigations should withdraw in the interest of the party.

4: Governors of Niger and Osun states handed big positions in the newly formed caretaker committee.

The decisions from the NEC meeting has added a new twist as the embattled Bola Tinubu has somewhat become the biggest winners following the outcome of the meeting. The Tinubu's camp which Adams Oshiomole and Pastor Ize-Iyamu are key members may have been handed a boost as the caretaker chairman is Tinubu's cousin while Osun governor is former secretary to Adams Oshiomole.

Pro Tinubu's camp

The losers based on the decisions taken appear to be Rotimi Amaechi camp which has Victor Giadam, Nasir El-Rufia and former Osun governor, Rauf Aregbesola. While it's not yet conclusive in as to what gain the camp of Amaechi obtained by the decisions from the NEC meetings, Tinubu's camp has an advantage already.

Your opinion is not an informed one. The new Chairman as you may have noticed, is now a Northern dyed in the wool Buharist who was an erstwhile National secretary of the defunct CPC, Buhari's legacy party. This is opposed to the Chairmanship that Tinubu has always filled with his nominees from the South from Akande till Oshiomole. The New secretary is Akpan-Udoedohe, an Amaechi acolyte from Akwa-Ibom who he had just fixed on the board of the NPA as a director. Note the NPA is supervised by the Transportation ministry. You can bet that most of the Northern elements therein would have been nominated by El-Rufai and co. David Lyon would seem like Sylva's impute apart from the obvious need to compensate him. Nnamani for the South East is a political associate of Rochas Okorocha. Oyetola is no doubt a close relative and associate of Asiwaju. The woman leader, Stella Okotete, is a political sop to the Deputy President of the Senate. More importantly, the preponderance of Governors within makes it an overwhelmingly PGF affair, I think.
