Pompeo: US, EU Should Confront China Together

The statements, made Thursday at an exhibition hosted by the German Marshall Fund, came as Pompeo declared openly his pursuit to join, Josep Borrell, EU foreign policy chief in Europe this month for conversations concerning China.

Via video connection, Pompeo stressed the bilateral type of the activities, asserting that "this is not the US-facing China, this is the world engaging China.”

Rather, the bloc has strived to construct a middle path, mitigating business connections while hesitating to heighten tension.

The European Union, the world's largest trading bloc, held conversations with the Chinese administration on Monday, reportedly laying tension on China to revamp its negotiation endeavours for a trade pact and boost investment in the EU. 

Ursula von der Leyen, Commission President said that while the discussions were crucial symbolically, more is necessary to be performed to guarantee the ceaseless cooperation between China and the European Union.  View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

“We have the motives, the words put on paper, but we require the actions,’’ she said. 

In his lecture at the Brussels Forum, Pompeo announced that the EU-China discussion was essential not only to conserve U.S. interests but to conserve the bloc’s economy from encroachment by China. 

He also clarified that he wished his forthcoming discussions with EU leaders on the problem would furnish a “catalyst for action.”
