How The New BBI Report Might Block DP Ruto’s 2022 Presidential bid

The Yusuf Haji led committee is done with compiling the second Building Bridges Initiative report and is set to hand it over to the president anytime from next week, a report dated Thursday 25th June have revealed.

The new report has put in place new proposals that might not sit well with Kenyans and leaders who would want to vie for political seats. The proposal to block any charged persons from vying for a public office has sent anxieties down DP Ruto’s allies, some of who believe the clause could be used against Ruto in 2022.

The proposal is “If you are charged you cannot vie for public office”

This proposal has sent chills to the DP’s camp since Deputy President William Ruto has been charged numerously including with the International Criminal Court; with the DP showing interest un vying for the 2022 presidential post, this new proposal might just make his dream impossible.

Gatundu South Member of parliament Moses Kuria digging into the report revealed that the release of the report next week is paving way for a possible referendum ahead of the 2022 general elections.

 Kuria also revealed that 290 constituencies would be retained but the number of nominated MPs is set to be increased from 12 to 162 to take care of highly populated constituencies.

Other proposals included in the second BBI report include: the position of the prime minister who will be voted for by parliament and will appoint all other Ministers. The PM will also have two deputy prime ministers.

The president will be elected by the people and will be the  Head of State and take charge of Internal Security, Defense and Foreign Affairs. The CJ will not be a member of the Judicial Service Commission among more proposals.
