Watford vs Southampton.
This fixture will see Watford host Southampton at the Vicarage Road. After picking up a useful point in a dramatic late-minute equalizer at home against the high flying Leicester City last weekend, relegation-threatened Watford was on the receiving end in midweek when they visited Burnley. Burnley won the game by 1-0. The loss left Watford in the 16th position with just one point above the relegation zone. However, a run of three homes games in their next four Premier League fixtures offers them a chance to put some distance between them and the bottom three.
Southampton comes into this match after losing by 2-0 against the Gunners in a game that saw a dreadful error from their keeper gift Arsenal the opening goal in the first half. Southampton were unable to convert a series of excellent chances and eventually conceded a second late goal after they were reduced to ten men. This was their fifth premier league defeat in seven fixtures.
Despite failing to score against Arsenal, we expect the Saints to score in this clash. Their frontline rarely fails to get on the score sheet in away matches. They have scored in 13 of their 15 away fixtures in the league. In addition to this, Watford has been poor in their defence, keeping just one clean sheet in eight games. However, their striking has also managed to score 6 goals in their last seven home fixtures.
Watford is unbeaten in seven of their last eight at home and so they should be confident coming into this game, although Southampton, who won five of their last seven away fixtures, head into this game as a competent team away from home-and both clubs will expect to avoid defeat.
Meetings between these two teams have seen both teams score in each of the last three matches. Having drawn 1-1 in two of their last three Premier League encounters, and also shared points in three of their last four games, these two well-matched teams should prove hard to separate again. So a 1-1 draw looks more likely in this clash.
