President Uhuru Speaks on What Will Determine Reopening of The Economy

President Uhuru Kenyatta, on a virtual meeting held today with Govenors, declared what will determine the reopening of the economy. In a meeting also attended by the Deputy President William Ruto, the president noted that the county shall reopen once the devolved county Governments are fully prepared for the pandemic.

In his speech, the president noted that; "County readiness to respond to new imported cases of infection will largely determine our national readiness to re-open the country as a whole.

The president also continued to speak; "I say this because the nation is the sum total of all the 47 counties. If the counties have met the necessary thresholds, then the nation will be ready to re-open," he further said.

The meeting was also attended by the health cabinet secretary Mutahi Kagwe who advised a further delay in reopening the economy. The deputy president William Ruto Also supported the president's move of the gradual reopening of the economy. As the health cabinet secretary also pointed out to countries that rushed in reopening their economy and started registering high infection rates.
