Machakos: Police Officer Who Assaulted Civilian at Kang'undo Bar in 2019 Finally Arrested

An Administration Police (AP) officer accused of assaulting members of public has been arrested.

Police Constable Keith Wekesa Barasa was arrested on Monday, June 29, local authorities say.

According to a police report filed at Kang'undo police station, the suspect allegedly descended on Julius Musyoki in December 2019 as he enjoyed resfreshments at a Kang'undo Bar.

"Be informed that Police Constable Keith Wekesa Barasa of Kangundo police station was today Monday, June 29, arrested and placed in custody for the offence of grievous harm contray to section 234 of the penal code,"

"The said Officer assaulted one Julius Musyoki on 22/12/2019 at Montana bar and restaurant within kang'undo. Investigations were conducted and completed," police said in a statement.

His arrest cames after the file was forwarded to CCIO Machakos and later to ODPP office for perusal and advice who who recommended that the said police officer be arrested and charged before court of law. 

He has been placed at the Kang'undo police cells and would be arraigned on court on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

Cases of police brutality across the country have been rife in the recent past and experts think something should be done before things get out of hand.

Already, several police officers have been interdicted while others have been killed by members of the public over what they term as police brutality.

A month ago, the International Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) approved prosecution of six officers who were found guilty in several murder cases.

IPOA recently said it has commenced investigations into the matter in which a police officer in Lessos police station, Nandi County fatally shot a conker to death for allegedly not wearing a face mask.
