Nigerian Instagram Celebrity Dramatically Arrested In Dubai Over Cyber Theft Worth Billions [VIDEO]

After years of flaunting his massive wealth online, showing off his incredible fortunes and creating quite a sizable following on Instagram, Nigerian Instagram celebrity Hushpuppi has been dramatically arrested by the Dubai police after he was squarely placed in the middle of one of the biggest online scam scandals of our times.

A total gang of 12 fraudsters, who were all working under Hashpuppi and who were all involved in the widespread cyber scam, were all arrested.

Dubbed “Fox Hunt 2”, the operation revealed a hidden online fraud network that was committing crimes outside the UAE, including money-laundering, cyber fraud, hacking, criminal impersonating, scamming individuals, banking fraud and identity theft.

Hashpuppi, real name Raymond Abbas was arrested alongside his fellow ring leader Olalekan Jacob Ponle aka Woodbery who also is a major Instagram star.

Police said the raid resulted in seizure of incriminating documents pertaining to a well-planned international fraud worth Dh1.6 billion.

Lt General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commander-In-Chief of Dubai Police, said the success of the operation is another feather in the cap of Dubai Police.

“Dubai Police stand against money laundering and organised cyber fraud and online scams. We are up to date with the latest technologies and methods that gangs use in their crimes. We have a qualified team of officers to stand up against cybercrimes,” Lt Gen Al Merri said.

Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, Director of Criminal Investigation Department at Dubai Police, said they received information about a gang specialised in money laundering and online scams.

“The gang including Hushpuppi, known for his display of wealth on social media. He would pose as a businessman to lure victims from all around the world. A team of Dubai Police monitored the gang that was creating accounts on social media with fake names,” Brig Al Jallaf said.

Hashpuppi, over the years, had amassed a mind-boggling Instagram following that had reached a staggering 2.4 million followers.

Not just anyone, he was even followed by some of the biggest names in the African entertainment scene including high-flying South African media empress Bonang Matheba and his account has even been verified by Instagram.

A cursory scroll through Hushpappi's IG account will reveal a man who loved the good life, lived super large, drove some of the flashiest sports cars, wore pure designer brands, matched his clothing with his cars, flew first class - or private jets at times -, indulged in the finest wine and champagnes and took photos at the most picturesque holiday hot spots.

On Instagram, He describes himself as a 'Real Estate Developer'.
