Mombasa is a coastal city of Kenya along the Indian Ocean. It is the country's oldest town and the second largest city after the capital city Nairobi. It is a tourism based city which has extra large port and an international airport. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

The first European to visit Mombasa was Vasco da Gama in 1498. Mombasa was put by the Portuguese under the rule of members of the ruling family of Malindi after the building of Fort Jesus.

Mombasa became the capital of the protectorate of Kenya between 1887and around 1906. The capital was later moved because medical officers warned that the ground was swampy then the capital city of Kenya moved to Nairobi. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

Mombasa town is centred on the island but extends to the mainland. The island is separated from the mainland by two creeks which are the Tudor Creek and the Kilindini Harbour. It is located to the mainland to the North by the Nyali Bridge, to the South by the Likoni Ferry and to the west by the Makupa Causeway.

Mombasa Tusk is one of the most visited and famous monumental structures in the city. It was built to remember a special visit by Queen Elizabeth in 1952. They are built at the entrance of the city center to form letter 'M' standing for Mombasa. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

The nature trails close to Malindi-Mombasa highway is an excellent place to visit for those who want to experience the beautiful landscape and scenery.

Mombasa Marine National Park is a site where one can watch sea creatures moving in the ocean through a large glass boat.

Haller Park was named after Dr. Haller René who turned abandoned limestone quarries into a natural reserve in 1971.

The Akamba Wood Carves which are found near the airport in Mombasa city have some of the most talented local artists who use their talents in achieving their life goals. Many tourists attractions exist in this coastal city making it one of the most visited destinations in Kenya and the world.
