ODM leader Raila Odinga on Sunday morning sent a congratulatory message to the people of Malawi and their newly elected president Lazarus Chakwera.

Taking to his Twitter account, the former prime minister hailed the people of Malawi for holding peaceful presidential election as he thanked outgoing president Peter Mutharika for an orderly transfer of power.

"I congratulate the people of Malawi on the successful and peaceful presidential election and incoming President Lazarus Chakwera on his impressive victory. I commend the outgoing President Peter Mutharika for creating the environment for a peaceful and orderly transfer of power," Raila tweeted.

"The election was followed keenly beyond Malawi and is a symbol of hope for those who support democracy in Africa and around the world," he added.

His post however received trolls from a section of Kenyans online with some asking him to equally accept defeat come 2022.

"Will you accept being defeated coming 2022," asked Isaac Leshanin.

"I hope you and your brother have gotten the message from Malawi clearly. The same case your two families have held the country on hostage. Second Liberation is coming in 2022 with Dr William Somoei Arap Ruto," David Kosgey tweeted.

"Baba, I hope you'll exercise the same on the next poll. Acception if so is necessary," another Kenyan added.

"Kazi yako ni kucongratulate wengine. Wewe haujawahi congratulatuwa?" one Kenyan mockingly asked.
