As he risks spending seven years behind bars following the landmark High Court ruling on Thursday, Sirisia MP John Waluke has come from far- politically speaking.
However, the latest twist could completely end his political journey, especially if he fails to raise the Sh. 594 million fine following his sentencing over Sh. 297 million corruption charge.
Faced with the risk of losing his seat if he spends the next six months in prison, Waluke's decades-long political career would have hit an all-time low. But who is this man?
Waluke joined politics in the early 1990s when he was personal aide to the then Nominated MP Moses Wetangula between 1992-1997.
Wetangula would later play a key role in mentoring the former Military man who was getting involved in politics.
During the 2002 general election, he was a key man in Wetangula's campaign machinery in the battle for the Sirisia MP seat.
However, during the 2007 general election, there was a bitter fallout between the two with Waluke making a huge political statement by challenging Wetangula for the Sirisia MP seat. He lost, and waited for his time to come.
While vying on an ODM ticket, Waluke was elected Sirisia MP in 2013. But after a fallout with Raila Odinga, he needs resigned as ODM Bungoma County chairman and joined the ruling Jubilee Party in 2016.
He easily defended his seat during the 2017 general election.

After his win in 2017, Waluke gravitated to the Deputy President William Ruto's political axis and has since emerged as the DP's main man in the Western Kenya region.
Known for his combative style of politics, Waluke is seen by man as a strong politician you can count on to deliver votes for your camp.
His mobilization skills helped the Jubilee Party to record shocking results in Bungoma County during the 2017 general election with Raila paying heavy price for losing him to his rivals.
Whatever happens next to Waluke remains to be seen. But the Sirisia MP's political goose seems cooked whichever way his sentence goes.
