Ngilu is now the second governor to be impeachment by a county assembly after kirinyaga county assembly impeachment Governor Ann Waiguru on a popular vote of 23 MCAs voting to impeach her. However ,Waiguru has survived the purge after the Senate acquited her af all charges against her.

Waiguru was accused of abuse of office and illegal tendering on various county departments.

Kenya has only witnessed only one governor impeached through the senate.Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu was succesfully impeached for gross misconduct,Misuse of public resources and replaced by his deputy governor Nyoro.
