Their lawyers Dunstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta had begged the court not to sentence the pair to a jail term. Ombeta said Waluke in particular had many dependents.
“If you lock him up, his salary is not there anymore…College children will stop their education... Young grandchildren won’t have their grandfather’s advice. You have been given medical reports …We are saying you look at him sympathetically,” Ombeta said.
“The conviction has deflated Waluke. The confidence is no longer there. He is a broken man…He has accepted the findings but wants to plead with you to exercise your mercy...He has regretted that these events came to pass. Look at him with mercy,” he added. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.
On his end Omari said Waluke a former Kenya army officer had served the country well and even played a role in averting the 1982 coup. He urged the court to lenient with him.
“We will be exposing Waluke to COVID- 19...He also saved former President Moi in 1982 coup .There's a general feeling that he is an MP and therefore can do what he wants… Let it go on record that the alleged offence was committed when he was not an MP,” he stated.
Waluke is a pro-William Ruto Mp.
