Lessos Residents Demonstrate over Police Brutality

Residents of Lessos, Nandi County on Thursday held demonstration over the alleged killing of a man by a police man.

According eye witness the deceased by the name Tirop was trying to help a bodaboda operators who was arrested by police officers for not wearing facemasks.

The situation, however, took a drastic turn when the police officer fired three gunshots killing the man instantly.

"As residents of Lessos we are unhappy with the police brutality and we are calling for justice of the deceased ,how can they police kill a person just because he was helping one after being arrested," said Rono Kipchumba.

They said they will continue with the demonstration until justice is served to the family of the defensed. 

The house of the OCS was also razed down during the demonstrations. 

"We will continue with demonstrations until stern actions is taken against the police who murdered the deceased .This is uncalled for how can an innocent souls lost just like that," Mary Kiprono added.

They called on the inspector general of police Hillary Mutyambai to come to their rescue by ensuring that the police involved in the murder is arrested, charged and shown the door.

"We are calling on the secretary general of police to arrest and charge the officer in the murder of an innocent soul for justice to prevail. If justice will not be served we will take laws into ours hands," said Kipkurui John.

"We are also calling for the transfer of all police officer since they are doing nothing but running up and down taking bribes instead of ensuring the security of residents is guaranteed," Mary Kipyego added.
