In 2016, Manchester United paid a then world record fee of £89 million to bring back Paul Pogba from Juventus. Immediately the pressure was on Pogba to perform like the star he was deemed to be. The then United manager Jose Mourinho declared that Pogba was the kind of star who would lead Manchester United to Premier League dominance. However, inconsistency and mismanagement of the player from Mourinho saw his form dwindle. This led to a fall out with Mourinho who would later on be dismissed by the Manchester United board. Pogba had grown tired and was inching closer to a move away from United.

Then came Ole Gunner Solskjaer and Pogba was reborn. He performed admirably before an injury curtailed his season. United had gone on and acquired the services of another midfield maestro Bruno Fernandez. Suddenly without Pogba, United had a star midfielder they could rely on. Unlike Pogba, Bruno was consistent enough to perform week in week out. When the COVID-19 pandemic rocked the globe and football went on a hiatus, Pogba was given a chance to recover fully from the injury that had plagued him throughout the season.

Having seen how the team was playing better in his absence might have made him work even harder to come back to the team. Fans and pundits alike wanted to see both Bruno Fernandez and Paul Pogba in the same team. The chance foe two world class mid fielders in the same United was a dream of many. When Pogba finally came back on the field against Tottenham, he was a changed player. He was no longer the unassuming player people were used to. He worked harder in both his defensive duties by tracking back and attacking duties by pushing forward which resulted in him winning the equalizing penalty. Against Sheffield United he was constantly moving up and down the field sacrificing for the team. This was a different Pogba, one who is driven and pushing the team forward. If he continues like that, he might fulfil his desire of making United champions again. Are we finally seeing the best of Paul Pogba?
