2022 is fast approaching and Ruto is set to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta after the end of his ten years term. Uhuru in the run to the 2013 and 2017 elections promised Kenyans that it would be 10 years for him and the other ten for his deputy William Ruto whom they have enjoyed a close relationship with for many years.

However, going by the latest development in politics lately, Ruto has been a hunted man mainly by the president and his close allies. It is believed that it all started after the unexpected handshake between President Uhuru and his greatest antagonist, Raila Odinga. Hell broke loose and the friendship between the two started to die away. It is now evident that the president and the deputy are not reading from the same page.

President Uhuru has been seen to uproot all Ruto's key allies from any government position. From former agriculture minister, Mwangi Kiunjuri to former Treasury Minister, Henry Rotich and others expected to face the ax. In parliament also, senate deputy speaker, Majority Leader, and Chief whip have all been ousted for supporting the deputy president.

Ruto's chances have been dwindling day by day. His once close allies are deserting him one by one. His once big team is pulling out one by one and Ruto has been left with few loyal friends but only time will tell if they too will stand the test of time. Ruto no longer enjoys the trappings of power as before except that the Deputy President's office is constitutional.

Ruto's only chance now is the grassroots votes. He has won the hearts of many Kenyans in the rural areas especially in Mt.Kenya and the rift valley. The notion of hustlers vs dynasties has created an impression of Ruto as a son of a peasant and thus understands the common citizen's problem. In parts of central Kenya, Ruto has more political clout than even the president himself. Ruto also enjoys considerable support from the church and religious entities countrywide. He is known to give huge amounts of money to the churches and this has elevated him among the faithful though many questioning his source of wealth.

With such support coupled with a strong running mate, Ruto will be unbeaten in 2022.
