This Is What To Expect On Lockdown, Cessation And Reopening Of The Economy As Covid-19 Cases Spike

Kenyans are eagerly waiting for the way forward on the matters cessation of movement in and and out of specified counties, the nationwide curfew, reopening of the country's economy among other measures.

In the past, president Uhuru Kenyatta had hinted on the gradual reopening of the economy but instead increased the lockdown and cessation of movement for a further 30 days.

In an address to Governors on 25th Thursday, President Uhuru Kenyatta told Governors that a reopening of the country’s economy will depend on the state of preparedness they exhibit in their territories.

Nairobi is the main epicentre of the novel virus in the country and this might lead to the extension of the cessation of movement into and out of the capital city. 

Cessation measures, lockdown in some hotspot counties and other measures are set to run until July 6, but Mutahi Kagwe the health cabinet secretary is keen on an extension, citing unpreparedness by some counties.

The reopening of the country might lead to surge of the deadly pandemic hence more infections countrywide leading to more deaths.

Covid-19 cases in Kenya now stand at 5,533 after 149 more people tested positive in the past 24 hours.
