The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) made the announcement on Wednesday adding that the waiver of the fees on mobile money transaction not exceeding a thousand shillings had been extended to December this year.
The charges for sending money from mobile phones to commercial banks will also remain at zero.
Reports by Citizen TV quoting CBK indicate that at least 1.6 million additional customers are currently using mobile money transactions owing to the measures that were put in place on March 16.
A statement from CBK read in parts: “Most of the increase was in low-value transactions of less, which has helped cushion most vulnerable households.”
The economic downfall was the major cause of the push for banks and telecommunication companies to adjust their transaction charges.
