These verses are quite controversial and though written in plain, difficult to fathom and interpret. The Bible is a balanced book. It isn't definite on how one should go about his ways even though the general rational of the Bible is about Righteousness. The Bible tells one to forgive sins and in some instances also urge an eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth.

Assuming you have about ghc500 being your last money in your account , and a friend calls to borrow gh¢300 for clothes for an upcoming wedding, you would not be deemed wrong for declining his loan request, as giving him more than half of your only money will mean u face grave repercussions.
Ecclesiastes 7 Vs 16-18 stretches that , whoever is too righteous would face self destruction or die before his or her due time. The verses 16-18 reads;
16Do not be overly righteous, and do not make yourself too wise. Why should you 'destroy yourself'? 17Do not be excessively wicked, and do not be a fool. Why should you 'die before your time'? 18It is good to grasp the one and not let the other slip from your hand. For he who fears God will follow both warnings.
To sum this up , I believe God understands we are humans and are flawless, we can pursue righteousness, we can't pursue perfection. Perfection is reserved for God as he is the only without sin. Our flaws have been inherited and learnt and they pass from man to man in generations. If you are confused as to whether a deed maybe deemed overly righteous or not ,trust your instincts, for they can never be wrong.
