Dandruff is a scalp disorder caused by either of the following, dry skin, irritated oily skin, growth of bacteria and fungus on the scalp. An itchy scalp and flakiness are usually the typical signs of this condition but it may also cause other symptoms like greasy patches on the scalp and tingling sensation on the skin.

Though there are a lot of over-the-counter products to treat dandruff, natural remedies can be just effective.

Below are five natural home remedies to treat dandruff.

Coconut oil may help improve skin hydration and prevent dryness.

Process

Mix some coconut oil with half the amount of lemon juice. Rub it on your scalp and massage for a few minutes. Wash your hair after at least 20 minutes.

Follow this remedy twice to thrice a week.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil has strong anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties which is extremely helpful in the treatment of dandruff.

Process

Add one drop of tea tree oil per ounce of your regular shampoo and wash your hair with it.

Otherwise, dilute the tea tree oil by adding a few drops to a tablespoon of olive oil or coconut oil and apply it on your hair. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes or overnight and then wash your hair. Do this once or twice a week.

Aspirin

Aspirin contains salicylic acid which is helpful in controlling dandruff by exfoliating your scalp.

Process

Grind two aspirins to a fine powder and mix it with a small amount of shampoo. Massage the mixture unto your scalp. Leave it in for some few minutes and then thoroughly wash your hair.

Otherwise, grind three aspirins to a fine powder and dissolve in one tablespoon of vinegar. Massage the mixture into your scalp and leave it in for half an hour. Wash thoroughly afterwards.

Meditation, deep breathing, yoga and aromatherapy are some great ways to reduce stress.

A stressful life may weaken your immune system which can reduce your body’s ability to fight off some of the fungal infections and skin conditions that contribute to dandruff.
